it could be that it is because i have one weekend behind me during which i felt, tasted, and drunk freedom. it could be because on friday afternoon a sense of serenity returned to me, and i had neither the impression of ever having lost it, nor of knowing where it returned from. all the same, and without attempting to make this logical, that sense of serenity was there on friday and during the weekend. it was as if time stood still, there was not a worry to be had by me or anybody. what is reality? what is illusion?
from a good old friend, one whom i have known since i was eighteen, i got a rather sweet e-mail this morning and he cited in it the lyrics of the song "nature boy" made popular by Nat King Cole:
There was a boy
A very strange enchanted boy
They say he wandered very far, very far
Over land and sea
A little shy and sad of eye
But very wise was he
And then one day
A magic day he passed my way
And while we spoke of many things
Fools and kings
This he said to me
"The greatest thing you'll ever learn
Is just to love and be loved in return"
"The greatest thing you'll ever learn
Is just to love and be loved in return"
it was good to start the day by reading this, and it was good to hear my brother's voice.
from all the events of the past month, and the first few days of this one what remains is that good advice from the aikidoka who held me in her arms and pleaded that i let myself fall more gently. will i know to heed her advice?
