when i got home from training last night the phone rang, it was one of my dearest friends who had been traveling in the caribbean islands while i was in spain and france and he experienced what i can only call "overdue and welcome travel fatigue" or rather the reminded that home is also a nice place to be. before we could catch up and share our experiences of the past two days my fax machine decided it was time to intervene.
today the sun did come into my office at lunch time, and another rare phone call on my fixed line announced itself. this time it was another dear friend who lives in germany and with whom i had last talked when i was in portugal before easter. meanwhile he has been to south africa and the caspian sea. again my fax machine decided to intervene, and we laughed and bubbled and i spontaneously invited him to visit, he accepted and will be here in a couple of hours.
i concede that i am up to my neck in deadlines and there was a great surprise in the alsace waiting for me: ease, speed and focus. on the train ride back home, a rather adventuresome travel in itself that had me sharing a car ride down a few hills to colmar, change trains in mulhouse and thne take a regional train directly to the swiss basle train station where again i changed trains, i had time to reflect on the week past and my goals for that week. it was overwhelming and marked by the taste of freedom.
when my visiting friend asked how i was doing, somehow the tone of my voice was such that, although my words said nothing specific, he asked if i was in love. i said, yes. yes, i am in love, with life, with you, with this adventure, with my friends, with those around me... i answered.
